Should Education Be Free
Education is an
important part of human’s life. Prophet Muhammed (SAW) said “a father gives his
children nothing good than a good education”. This Hadith enlightens the
importance of education. The secret behind the growth of any nation is
education. After knowing the importance of education, it is our responsibility
to spread it. It is a Hadith that acquire knowledge and impart it to others.
Every one should gain knowledge as it enables growth and development. In our country Pakistan, 25 million children are not going school because they are economically instable and their parents cannot afford to pay fees of school. In Pakistan schools provide low quality education at high cost. There should be 96 percent literacy rate in a country like Pakistan but literacy rate of Pakistan is 62.8 percent which is very low as compare to the other world. Over 60 percent population of Pakistan lives in rural areas where illiteracy is very common. The main reasons behind illiteracy in rural areas are poverty, costly education and unawareness. Uneducated rural and urban population greatly affects the economy of Pakistan.
Now have a look on the world. The countries which provide free
education have high literacy rate such as Finland, Germany, Norway, Denmark,
etc. The average literacy rate of these countries is 99.68 percent. IMF and
OECD have proved these countries having strong and rich economy. The reason
behind their success is free education.
Free education has many merits. If there is free education more
people will go to educational institutes and get education. It will reduce
unemployment, uplift the standard of living and ultimately will boost the
economy of a country. Further it will reduce crime rate, drug addiction and
other social evils. Education also reduces inequality and poverty.
In a nutshell, education plays a crucial role in country’s
development. Every citizen has a basic
right to have an access to the quality education. That is why education should
be free for all so that those poor children who cannot afford costly
education may go to school and gain knowledge.
